Natalia Callai Da Silva

PhD Student

Co-Supervisor : Dr. Sebastien Talbot

I graduated my masters in 2020, in Health Sciences - Neuroscience, at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul.

My research project is to investigate the nerve regeneration role of different drugs in corneas with an inflammatory model of Herpes simplex infection. For that, we use an in vivo model of cornea scarification or perforation, and we use the hydrogel developed in the lab to deliver the drugs.

In the lab, I always listen to a podcast or audiobook. In my free time, I like to spend time with my friends, enjoy a good movie and explore the city - which can always lead to finding new coffee places and a chance to  improve my spoken French skills 😁

I did my Master’s at Tarbiat Modares University (TMU) Tehran in Biomedical Engineering. I started my PhD in Fall 2020 but came to Canada winter 2021.

My Research Project is on Printing of Biomaterials for Cornea Regeneration, where I work with Dr. Christos Boutopoulos. I also work on developing Collagen-based Implants with Testing Different Sterility Methods for Corneal transplantation.

My hobbies include hiking, playing volleyball and biking.

Neethi C Thathapudi

PhD Student

Co-Supervisor : Dr. Marie Claude Robert

I completed my Master’s in Life Sciences from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), India. After a 9-month long wait for visa, I finally began my research work at the Griffith Lab in Jan 2022.

My research focuses on understanding the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the context of cell-biomaterial interactions and viral infections.

You will find me cooking and talking about philosophy, when I am not in the Lab.

Mostafa Zamani ROUDBARAKI

PhD Student

Co-Supervisor : Dr. Christos Boutopoulous

I earned my master's degree in chemistry from the University of Tehran and joined Dr. Griffith's group in Fall 2021, where I've been developing innovative hydrogels for treating alkali-burnt corneas. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring history and geography, watching movies and documentaries, and spending time with my family.

Mozhgan Aghajanzadeh

PhD Student

I earned my Master's degree in Inorganic Chemistry from University of Tehran in 2015. After working as a research assistant in Dr. Griffith's lab, I began my PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2022.

I am working on development of in vitro and in vivo models for neuronal delivery of nucleic acid vs peptide-loaded nanoparticles for cornea HSV-1 infection treatment

I enjoy indulging in various hobbies such as exploring new recipes, reading novels, watching movies, playing chess, going for walks, and now, spending time with my little son.
